Working Principle
Heat Transfer: When the high-temperature steam enters the tubes, heat is transferred from the steam to the tube walls by convection. Then, the heat is conducted through the tube walls to the outer surface. On the shell side, the relatively low-temperature water comes into contact with the outer surface of the tubes and absorbs the heat, increasing its temperature.
Phase Change: As the steam transfers heat to the water, it gradually condenses into water. This phase change from steam to water releases a large amount of latent heat, which is effectively utilized to heat the water. The condensed water is usually drained out through a specific outlet.
Advantages
High Heat Transfer Efficiency: The large heat transfer area provided by the numerous tubes and the well-designed flow paths enable efficient heat transfer between the steam and water.
Wide Temperature and Pressure Range: It can operate under a wide range of temperatures and pressures, making it suitable for various industrial applications where different steam and water conditions are involved.
Reliable and Durable: With a robust structure and the use of high-quality materials, shell and tube heat exchangers have a long service life and can operate stably for a long time.
Easy Maintenance: The structure is relatively simple, and it is convenient to clean and maintain the tubes and other components. Regular maintenance can ensure its optimal performance.
Applications
Power Plants: Used to heat feedwater with steam, improving the efficiency of the power generation cycle.
Chemical Industry: In chemical processes, it is used for heating or cooling various process fluids, such as in the production of chemicals, petroleum refining, etc.
Heating Systems: In district heating systems or industrial heating applications, it transfers heat from steam to water for space heating or process heating.
